🎯 Scoring Modes
Toss Tally offers two main scoring approaches, each suited to different play styles.
Tap to Score
Best for: Casual games, quick scoring, when you don't need detailed statistics
How it works:
- The screen rotates to landscape orientation
- Each team has a large score panel
- Tap the top half of a panel to add points (+1)
- Tap the bottom half to subtract points (-1)
- Scores update instantly with visual feedback
Features:
- Large, easy-to-read score display
- Quick tap gestures for fast-paced games
- Game counter shows progress in multi-game matches
- Winner announcement when a team reaches 21
Bag Scoring
Best for: Competitive play, tracking player statistics, detailed game analysis
How it works:
- The screen stays in portrait orientation
- Record each bag's landing individually
- Statistics are calculated automatically
Track All Bags
Record every bag thrown:
- Tap In for bags through the hole (3 points)
- Tap On for bags on the board (1 point)
- Tap Off for missed bags (0 points)
This provides the most accurate statistics but takes slightly longer to enter.
Skip Off Bags
Only record successful throws:
- Tap In for bags through the hole
- Tap On for bags on the board
- Off bags are calculated automatically (4 minus In minus On)
This speeds up scoring while maintaining accuracy.
Enter Totals
Enter the point total directly:
- Select points scored (0 to 12)
- The app determines the bag breakdown
For some point values, multiple breakdowns are possible:
- 3 points could be 1 In + 3 Off, or 3 On + 1 Off
- 4 points could be 1 In + 1 On + 2 Off, or 4 On
- 6 points could be 2 In + 2 Off, or 1 In + 3 On
When this happens, a popup asks you to select the correct breakdown.

📋 Cornhole Scoring Rules
Points System
Each bag earns points based on where it lands:
| Landing | Points | Description |
|---|---|---|
| In | 3 | Bag goes through the hole |
| On | 1 | Bag lands and stays on the board |
| Off | 0 | Bag misses the board or slides off |
| Foul | 0 | Rule violation (stepping over the line, etc.) |
Cancellation Scoring
Toss Tally uses cancellation scoring (also called "netting"), which is standard in competitive cornhole:
How it works:
- Both teams throw their 4 bags in a round
- Calculate each team's raw points (0-12 possible)
- Subtract the lower score from the higher score
- Only the team with more points scores — they get the difference
Team A throws: 2 In (6 pts) + 1 On (1 pt) + 1 Off (0 pts) = 7 points
Team B throws: 1 In (3 pts) + 2 On (2 pts) + 1 Off (0 pts) = 5 points
Result: Team A scores 7 - 5 = 2 net points. Team B scores 0 points.
This keeps games competitive and prevents runaway scores.
Race to 21
- The first team to reach 21 points wins the game
- There is no "bust" rule — you cannot go over and lose points
- If both teams would reach 21 in the same round, the team with more points wins
- Most games last 15-25 rounds

Common Questions
Can I change the scoring mode during a match?
No, scoring mode is locked once a match starts. Tap "Start New Match" to change modes, but this will end your current match.
Why does "Enter Totals" sometimes ask me to pick a breakdown?
Some point totals (3, 4, and 6) can result from different bag combinations. The app asks which one occurred so statistics remain accurate.
How far does Bluetooth reach?
Typically 30-50 feet in open space. Walls, crowds, and interference can reduce range.
Is my data synced to the cloud?
No, all data stays on your device. Use multiplayer features to share live scores with nearby devices.
Can I export my match history?
Match data is stored locally on your device. Currently, there is no export feature.
What happens if I close the app mid-game?
Your match is saved automatically. When you reopen the app, it resumes where you left off.
